Live8

we live in a world of
prosperity and wealth,
not of poverty and death.

check my gallery for photo's of the day

i am so privileged to attend the biggest event ever, simply as a spectator and a giver. here's my weblog of the events leading up to and attending the biggest music festival in the world.

i am dedicating my webspace to the Live8 concert.

following are memories and pictures that document my experience.

saturday july 2

the Live8 concert is on! the postie arrived early with the rods for my 'MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY' banner - excellent -

Kate came round with food and water, we organised ourselves with all necessary items for the day, - don't forget the tickets! -

jump on the train to waterloo and doze off, take the tube to green park. walk down piccadilly towards hyde park, we see the gay pride march on our way. walking up park lane the volume of people queuing for Live8 was amazing! seeing as we had golden circle tickets we found the entrance by marble arch and walked straight through into the enclosure passing the backstage area and Jonathan Ross' pod. we walked towards the left of the stage to get a decent view. it was amazing how close we were, there are a few times my banner appeared on TV including a close up of me during Sting's performance, unfortunately Kate was behind a taller guy in the crowd :(

i don't really know what to say about the concert as we were totally immersed in the entire experience, - amazing - totally unforgettable. being with that many people in the same place at the same time, truly awesome.

something that will resonate with me forever was when Will Smith came on the large screens to co-ordinate the clicking fingers every 3 seconds with all the Live8 concerts around the world, a truly monumental moment.

favourite moments of the day

Sir Paul McCartney- 'sgt pepper's lonely harts club band' my banner in the photo from the bbc's website during the release of the white doves
U2 - 'one'
Coldplay with Richard Ashcroft
- 'bitter sweet symphony' my banner appeared on TV
Stereophonics
- 'local boy in the photograph'
REM - 'everybody hurts' again, my banner appeared on the bbc
Keane - simply text book, totally awesome
Travis
- 'why does it always rain on me'
Annie Lennox - a truly emotional moment in time
Snoop Dogg - got the crowd jumpin'
Madonna
- what a stage presence! totally in awe of her -amazing-
Sting - 'message in a bottle' i appeared on TV singing along, Kate is behind the guy in the middle :(
Robbie Williams - an electric performance singing 'angels'

there are many more moments that fill me with memories of the day, the video's that played during the concert on the big screens that the bbc did not show on the TV were raw and hard-hitting. a picture of an Africans woman standing in front of a decimated heard of cattle, dressed in rags wearing massive diamond earrings from tiffany's and a gucci handbag. kinda puts it in perspective.

something never to forget.

friday july 1

seeing as i spent the best part of the whole night drinking beer and creating this weblog i woke a little late, needless to say i've loads to do. a great big THANK YOU goes out to Chris from Fishing Tackle Direct for so kindly contacting me and helping me to create my banner for tomorrow by sending a couple of telescopic fishing rods for me to use to fly my banner.

had a great lunch with Fiona, so good to catch up hunny! looking forward to 'summer lounger'

had a meeting with a customer to discuss their Word and Excel templates and finally made it home to start creating the banner.

after taking what seems to be forever i completed my 'MAKEPOVERYHISORTY' banner, you may spot it in the crowd during the concert, it's got my andij.com logo in the top left.

thursday june 30

only 2 more days to go! - wow - it's mad i tell you, some tickets are going for £400 a pair, i can't believe these guys, i really hope they donate at least half of their profit to charity if not all of it, i hope you feel guilty if you kept it all for yourself's.

thank goodness that ebay are removing all bids on tickets, still, i spose it will not stop people capitalising on their luck, - shame -

please give your money to the deserved charity's.

came up with a couple of designs for the t-shirts, Kate will be round later to finish the ideas and print our t-shirts.

we are so cool, the t-shirts look 'the dog's' and we'll be proud to wear them.

planning what to take with us on saturday. water, food, sweets, fruit, sun cream, tissues, jumpers, champagne, camera, signature pen, i'm trying to decide weather we'll take a banner. i've got the stuff to make it, all i can hope is that i can get is some telescopic fishing rod's to hoist it up!

wednesday june 29

bit of a non day really, kind of a lull.
i put some good hours of work in, later Sadie called to ask if i could help clear her kitchen so Andy can lay her tiled floor. Sadie came back to help me sort out my kitchen, kind of a spring clean. i took Sadie home and on the way back i went to the station to pre-book our travel tickets for saturday.
the rest of the day i just chilled out watching tv and considering saturday.

tuesday june 28

can't keep my mind off the idea that i'll be part of the Live8 gig, have spoken to Kate and explained that she's the first person on my list of friends to invite, she's such a good friend and i'm sure that she'd love the experience, to be honest, i would choose her over anyone to come with me, it'll be such a good thing to do together.

i'm now designing our t-shirt transfers for the concert, taking the 'MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY' logo and the Live8 guitar logo.

monday june 27

i woke early, and decided to crack on with some work, about 1:30 i made some lunch, while my lunch was under the grill i heard my mobile ring upstairs, i dashed up the stairs and just about managed to answer the call. 'Mr Jones', 'YES', 'Hi it's Monique from AOL on behalf of Popworld and Live8', 'YES' - slight shortening in breath as i consider the phone call.. 'Andi Jones, you have been selected as a winner of the Popworld Live8 competition!!' 'EH' p a u s e ... 'SERIOUSLY?' 'yes, you have won a pair of gold circle tickets to the Live8 concert in Hyde Park.' 'OH MY GOD - NO?' 'yes...' 'WHATS YOUR NAME AGAIN?' 'Monique.' MONIQUE, I LOVE YOU!' the conversation went on with me short of breath and Monique explaining the details of the competition.

right then, (after lunch) I'd better call my folks.. -no answer- call dad's mobile -no answer- call mum's mobile -no answer- call Kate -no answer-, call my folks again, -no answer- leave a message, call Kate again, leave a message, call Sadie,(my sister) -no answer- I was starting to go stir crazy! finished my lunch and text Kate 'call me asap, i have some great news -seriously :)' finally, about 15 minutes later Kate called and i explained what had happened, it took a little while for it to sink in but it was almost as much of a shock to her as it was to me...

my sister called back and i made her jealous with the prospect of seeing all the fantastic artists appearing for Live8, finally my dad called me back and i gave him the good news, mum called me back so i could tell all.

i was in such a good mood all day. how fantastic to win a competition of this magnitude, wow, what a privilege!

sunday june 26

i spose a regular Sunday really, chillin' out after a good Saturday night out with my mates down the pub, nothing too strange about that. Recovering from a hangover i was chilling out watching TV. T4's Popworld announced a competition for a pair of tickets to the Live8 gig. later that day i entered the competition and added my name to the G8 petition. y'know just in case i was one of the lucky ones...

since May, i'd bought myself a few 'make poverty history' bracelets. Gary had one and i gave Kate one too, this made me feel good as i explained about the G8 summit and all the good work that was going on towards Live8. i wore my bracelet with pride, hoping that i'd be able to personally experience the events as they unfolded.
